In recent months, my TikTok feed has been flooded with short Chinese dramas. These dramas are usually short, only 1-2 minutes per episodes, but there can be a lot of episodes. The stories vary, ranging from school romances and royal fantasies to classic CEO dramas.
Why are short dramas trending? First, because they are practical and quick to watch. They are suitable for the current generation who prefer short entertaiment to long 40 episode dramas. Second, the stories are dramatic and intriguing, so even though they are short, they can still make your emotions go up and down.
But behind all the excitement , these Chinese dramas can also be frustrating. Many viewers are annoyed because the continuation of the drama is difficult to find (not always available on official platforms), the ending is often left hanging, some titles have such poor storylines and acting that they are laughable.
In my opinion, these short Chinese drama shows how young people today prefer quick and simple entertaiment rather than long episodes. Even though they can be annoying at times, many people are still interested on watching them until the end.
